Rant: Why is the resale on these cars total crap!? Approx. 38% residual after 5 or so years?...

At least going off what Edmunds/KBB says, for a $42k dollar new in 2001, with avg miles my 01 has lost approx 62% of it's "value" in not even 6 years? Hell, I'm picking up a 98 Civic with 77k miles for $4k, black booked at $5400 and I"ve seen as high as $8000+ in stealership lots---that car was only $17k or so new!!!! And it's 9 years old!!

too much maintenance and not enough prestige. After all, Audi/VW isn't the most reliable brand. Plus, there's always the newer/better model out. Typical reasons.

so I'm running numbers and just can't believe the resale. I"m glad I haven't really modded it that heavily either--I'd never get the money out of it.

and not totally lose my ***. That's why I haven't heavily modded this car. But heavily modded it's a blast---so there is a trade off.

You will find someone who'll pay over book for your car.
The right person will come along and will see the true value of your car. There aren't many, but there are a few...
I sold my Jeep for way over book because it was mint and had low mileage last year.

I share the same attitude since I am near 200K miles on the S4, and almost 55K on the A8L (04). And before the S4, I put 180K miles on a 93 RX7. My brother-in-law rents a car when he drives out of town to keep his miles down, hoping to keep his resale value up. Cars are meant to be driven and replaced, not to sit in showrooms (at least the ones I have owned).
