Re-calibrating gas guage

My gas guage has been off lately.
I usually get about 280 miles out of a full tank and lately the guage has been at empty and the low fuel light on at around 230 miles. First I thought something was effecting my gas mileage. But when I went to fill up, the tank took only 13.6 gallons, rather than the 14.5 that it takes when empty.
Is there a way to check what the sensor is reading and/or re-calibrate it via VAG-COM?

I'm getting less miles per tank but when I go to fill up when empty, it only takes 10-12 gallons. Even after filling up, the gauge never goes all the way to full (about 3/4 of the way between 3/4 & F) but stays there for quite some time. The last 1/2 tank of gas seems to go really quickly to empty.
I think I still have 5-6 gallons when it shows near empty.
I spoke to the service rep about this & he said it is most likely the fuel sender. My car goes into the dealer on Monday.

Car thinks it is empty when there is 1/3 of a tank left. I have been using the tripometer instead of the fuel gauge until I get it in for normal service. It is kind of fun just imagine you are driving a Shelby Cobra with a fuel cell and that is the only way to meter your gas.
