Default Reason 1 in a series of why GEICO sucks... (Insurance/Legal Advice Sought)

1) The appraiser just called me and said he was looking at my car. He asked where I was going to be taking it for the work and I told him the car would be going to Wagon Work, simply because they are the best shop in the area. He comes back with, "just so you know, Wagon Work charges $40 and hour while every other shop in Northern Virginia charges $32 an hour. GEICO will only cover up to $32 an hour and the rest is up to the [you]."

WHAT THE ****! Yesterday I was told I can go to any shop I wanted, now I'm told there is this caveat at the one shop I feel comfortable taking my car to. BULL ****!

Lawyer types, do I have any recourse here?

I apologize for the lack of proper writing in this post, I am FUMING right now.

Default Talk to Wagon Work.

Body shop owners know the drill, and the good one's know how to get the money they need to do a repair from insurance companies. Ask them if you can have your adjuster look at the car in the presence of the shop owner, so the two of them can haggle over the bits.

The way my body shop explained it to me, each insurance company has their own policies about what can and can not be billed back to them. My body shop will honor each insurance company's policies (hell, it's not the adjusters fault that corporate set up those policies...he's just doing his job), however, he WILL get the money he needs to repair the car correctly, so he'll make up his prices in other areas. Bottom line, he doesn't bother me with these details, and he and the adjuster sit down to hammer out all the crap. Leaves me happy...very happy.

Cool. I'm not pissed at the appraiser, just the whole GEICO company.

Default Easy Solution>>>>

Don't let the tail wag the dog.

You get three estimates. Go to the highest priced places you can, especially dealer pricing.

His claim on what the rate they will pay is just his job, trying to get the lowest payout possible.

With three quotes issued to him, he does not have much to go on, and if he is still hesitates, you can get your lawyer involved. Tell him once the lawyer is involved, you will not agree to any settlement.

Do your homework, and present him with the facts.

Default am all too familiar w/ geicio's policy... had to file a clam myself

When i had to file a claim last month after my front end was damaged by running into a raccoon. The appraiser called came looked at the car without even calling me to let me be there. So he looked over the car, called and left me a voicemail that he just looked it over AT MY HOUSE while i was gone. (i was told by geico that he would call so i could be there with him during the evaluation of the damages)

Then the car was sent to a body shop that Geico doesnt deal with on a regurlar basis. Im sure the labor for this shop was well past $32 an hour. Since they do alot of body work for Porsche's and BMW's. The estimate he wrote me was SO low for the actual cost to repair it. The estimate he wrote w/ a check to me and the body shop was only $2158.. When the body shop looked this over they asked me why such a low estimate <.. I had no anwswer other than they suck.

I sent the picutures of the damages to a friend whos an appraiser for Progressive insurance, he said "thats well over $4000 in damages. Geico appraiser said they will issue out a supplimental check for the difference if its going to be more. <---- thats bull****.

Now i have to get a rental car from Enterprise. Geico will only cover up to $20 a day i have to cover the rest. they give me a car thats $23.99 a day and thats a piece of **** Cavalier. They could not get me into anything cheaper. I get stuck with the rest of the bill when i turn the car in.

If i were you i could call and speak to the Appraisers supervisor. I did when the appraiser wouldnt cover the cost of my front lip spoiler. I raised bloody hell with them and told them that in the best interest to keep a satisfied customer this is what it will take.. They eventually covered it after i raised hell.

True they do rush to settle a clam.
No they do not do everything they can do to help YOU when you need it. The appraisers goal is to save the insurance company money on all claims filed, this is how they receive a bonus at the end of the year.

RAISE HELL WITH THEM OVER THIS !!!!!!

The actual cost of damage to my front end came to over $4576

AIM me if you have any questions

Default I guess you get what you (figuratively speaking) pay for...

I have Amica, and the one time I've had to deal with them for the VW, they just told me on the phone to go to a shop and have the work done and send them the bill.

They may not be the cheapest, but they're one of the best.

Heck, they guided me through the whole S4 sedan accident mess.
