Well, apparently my thought that the linkage got messed up turned out to be true.
The dealer inspected the linkage, and said it was ok, and the problem was internal to the tranny. They said Audi would cover it under warranty, and that I was authorized money for a rental car.
So they finally get to my car today (went in 7 days ago) They get the tranny nearly out, shy like 4 bolts, and find the problem.
The service advisor said there is a linkage rod of some sort on top of the tranny that can only be seen when the tranny is nearly out. There was a jam nut of some sort that had slipped and came loose.
Now the fun part. Since another Audi dealer did clutch warranty work, my new dealer said they were now no longer going to cover the repair or the car rental.
I told the advisor that he needed to speak to his superriors before AoA got a call from one furious S4 owner.
Alas, my story continues...

doesn't the second dealer get reimbursed just the same from Audi, regardless of whether it is "new" work or work to fix another dealer's mistake? What's the problem AoA? I don't get it.
