Default removing manifolds

ok so im almost done pulling the heads off. all thats left is to get the manifolds off so i can take off the heads.... am i able to just unbolt the manifold from the head an let the manifolds sit there (i know i cant take them outta the car with out pulling the engine, was just going to let them sit in place but unbolted from the manifold - if that makes sense)or is that not possible?

Default The manifolds bolt onto studs sticking out of the heads. So if you can swing them off of the studs

you can leave them there.

If they've been on for a while soak them with PB Blaster, free all, etc... for an hour or three.

Never tried it, so let us know if it works =P

Default With the turbos still attached to the manifolds, I don't know how you could

With all the coolant and oil lines attached to the turbos, there's no way you could swing the manifolds off the studs.

Yup that could complicate things a little bit unless he can unbolt the turbos and let the coolant/ oil lines semi-support them.

havent moved in 8 years since the car was assembled in the factory. if there werent a million wires near the bolts i heat it up with a torch but yea... u all know what it looks like over there so... thats not gonna happen. ill probably give it one more shot next week an then im just gonna suck it up an pull the whole motor

Default I recomend removing the turbo bolts, and lifthing the head with the manifold attached.

You first have to remove the heat shield.
But everything thing stays connected. Dont forget the waste gate lines, they are bolted to the head.

The turbo wont move out of place. the Downpipes, and all the lines will support it.

You will be much happier when its time to re-install.
