Removing passenger side mirror

Do you need to take the door panel off? It seems you can take it off without doing this step. Any else ever done this?

the connector might be a little tricky to remove if you don't take the panel off

remove the door panel is an extra 5 minute job.

you may be able to do it without, but i think it makes it easier to deal w/ the wire connections.
