Default Well, you can drive them out with a drift or if you're lucky, can use the axle bolt to push them off

The bolt trick worked on my friend's '00 S4, but not on my "01.

Go figure.

I saw in the tech articles that some guy used a two arm puller. This seems like a good idea. Anyone?

Default Place in vice (not physically tightened) but the bottom of the outer is resting on TOP of the...

vice jaws then insert say a 1/2" diameter drift/rod on top and hit with a mallet. You're only trying to free the joint from the circlip. Be sure to ask someone to help as they need to hold the axle while you strike it because if no one is holding it, it will hit the floor.

If you need more help just call we'll walk you through it.

Default i tried that, didn't work. Best thing to use is the actual axle bolt itself

Make sure the CV joint is straight and thread the axle bolt back into the cv joint (obviously the hub is disconnected at this point). You shouldn't have to use a lot of force threading the axle bolt back in but eventually that will push the cv joint off of the axle. At a certain point it will pop, don't be alarmed, it's suppose to do that :-) Take note of the orientation of the plastic washers and metal c-clip on the axle.
