Default Replacing fuel injector O-rings...

how do the injectors connect to the fuel rails? Are they threaded on, or will they pop off? I'm wondering if I need to depressurize the fuel system before replacing the O-rings.

Thanks.

Default Injectors are just pressed into the fuel rail and manifold and sealed by the O-rings.

You can remove them by hand.

Just have a rag wrapped around the injector when you pull it out to soak up the gas (if you can let the car sit overnight, fuel pressure will drop off to zero and it'll be less of a mess).

Its not hard at all to remove/replace the injectors.

Default Ditto what Dave said...*EDIT*

just pull the fuel pump fuse while the car is running. When it dies, crank the starter a few times to make sure most of the fuel is out. Then you should be able to simply pull the injectors out from the intake manifold. Use a rag and catch the spray from the first pressurized injector. You should be able to pull the entire fuel rail off and not have to remove the injectors from there...unless you have to.

Default imo, much easier to just slightly lift the rail than to take it off completely...

it's a bit tight but much easier. I've got it down to ~20min for a full injector swap with no problems.

Just be absolutely sure you have the injector clips seated correctly when you reinstall the injectors.

Default You're probably right...

When I had to do the injectors I just had to reposition them...as they weren't aimed right after they were installed the first time. So I just twisted them while they were on the rail

Default seated correctly in the trash can maybe :p the rail itself should be sufficient to hold the

injectors in place

Default Speaking of which...

dummy question: Is there a change in size for the o-rings between OEM & RS4 injectors (or even greentops for that matter)? I wouldn't think so, but just checking.

Default Nope. Injector o-ring sizing seems to be a fairly universal thing from what I've seen.

All of the injectors that I've had experience with have been plug & play for the S4 and RS4 fuel rails/manifolds.

Default yeah the injector clips WILL cause leaks if put on improperly. but if you toss them entirely you'll

be just fine.

Default lol, I dropped a clip and literally spent 2 hours with 3 different light sources...

and 2 magnet wands before finally finding it.

Now you tell me... <sigh>
