Results of my S4 vs A6 4.2 Sport experiment...long and rambly

Hey Sean!
Cool to hear we have an S4 avant on the way to Portland. I love Imola (it only looks faster than silver), buy that V1 now though. ;-)
I'm the unofficial president of the Portland S4 club. Shoot me an email, and I'll add you to our list. (I'm on vacation currently, Orlando tomorrow, so I won't get back to you for a while.) But in the meantime, we are having an dinner get together at 5:30 on Aug. 1st at Thai Orchid on Capitol Hill in SW Portland. (This will be after the Proformance Adv. Lapping day @ PIR that I'll be playing in w/ some other S4's from Seattle. Can't wait!)
Hope to see you there...<p><a href=http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=3977>click for registry</a>

Anyone else prefer the pre-99.5 rear gate on the Avant ?
I have a 99 2.8 Avant, with a Casablanca White S4 Avant on order - I'm going to miss that wider euro plate opening though. It breaks up the large rear gate surface area IMHO. Plus, the US version looks tacked on to me. I'm hoping to remove it and replace it with the older parts if no mounting holes are exposed.

Jason, here's what I remember...
Laser Red/Silver S4, 6sp, Bose, Cold Weather, Conveience. Don't know if it had a CD changer in the back.
Imola Yellow/Onyx S4, 6sp, Bose, Cold Weather, Conveience.
For more information on price and such, call Prestige Imports, 303-238-8101, and ask for Paul Hansen or Donna Prince. Tell them I sent you and you should be fine.

Good post--just went through the same decision process....
and ended up ordering a Santorin/Silver '01 S4. Decided the A6 4.2, while gorgeous and very satisfying to drive, was (a) too big, and (b) too grown-up. I think I'm gonna be happy with my decision.....except that now I have to wait several months, instead of just driving the A6 off the lot. :-(
As for your color dilemma, I'd go with Imola--I think the imola wagons look terrific. IMO, the hot ticket is Imola with the onyx/silver alcantara sport interior. Good luck deciding!
