With rising gas prices, I wonder if any chip tuners have considered creating an 87 octane program
or one that cuts the engine down to 3 cylinders when idling in traffic or any other type of fuel conservation program that could be used when tooling around town.
I ask because I finally gave up and started experimenting with lower octane in my motorcycle. I've always used 91 or above, but I vaguely recall that the owner's manual didn't preclude lower octanes. When gas was cheap, I didn't care, but now that I'm paying over $10 a tank to fill that thing up, I started thinking about reducing the expense slightly now that I'm riding it all the time. Made me start to contemplate ways to improve fuel economy in the S4.

I also have a small boost leak
But yesterday I used valet mode to drive (on highway) but just used lemmiwinks to raise the speed limiter so I could go fast enough Final MPG 30!!!! Just need to be careful on the accelerator.

I can't stand seeing responses like this,,,,,,(long)
I don't care what you drive it is not a bad idea to worry about fuel mileage.
I bought an S4 because I wanted something that I could not only use to whoop-on meatheads in trans-ams, but also take across the country snow or shine practically.
,,,,I'm also tired of hearing people ripping on Honda's. I have a 93 Civic HB that isn't even close to stock, not practicle for a daily driver, owns the S4 on the highway, gets 32mpg cruising at 70 and has almost twice as many miles.

Okay, how much money per month are you saving by using lower octane in the motorcycle??
My guess is that incremental savings pales in comparison to the savings of driving the motorcycle instead of the S. Gotta wonder why you're even contemplating it.

repost. its an easy calculation...the delta price between 87 and premium will only save you
around $100 a year. which is NOTHING. do the calculation yourself...its easy. unless you have a commute like markp's...forget it.
