I have a rattle or knock coming from the engine bay when I'm moving from 5-40 mph. It comes and goes when I'm not on the throttle. I can't hear or feel it when I'm accelerating at any rate. I notice it the most in second gear when I'm coasting to a stop ~20-10 mph.

I can only think its the cv, but i got under the car and tried to move it, and heard nothing. Also I don't hear it when I'm turning, only when I'm going straight... Any other ideas? The subframe is tight. Control arms are old, but I don't hear it going over bumps, only when on flat ground.... Thanks in advance...

I had an A6 with a similar sound/problem. Turned out to be a leaky DP flex joint...

It's more of a muffled random rattle, but sounds like solid metal on metal, like a cv knocking. I can feel it in my feet, though I just upgraded the trans mounts, so that may have just amplified the feel/sound of a slightly worn cv??

I just found it strange that it only happens (so far) when i'm going straight, not turning. Could it be that I caught the problem (bad cv)before it got really bad? Or would a bad cv knock only when turning at first?

Just trying not to throw money at the problem unnecessarily... Thanks for the thoughts!
