Default Rough idle

Today I noticed the idle was not smooth and fluctuated more than normal.

I saw rpms rise to just below 1k and drop to 500; normal for me is ~700 rpm.

I checked for major connections on top; no leaks were apparent. I unplugged the MAF and idle normalized.

Is this a MAF related issue or something else? What else should I look into?

No codes came up until I unplugged the MAF.

Thanks

Check spark-plugs. And check they are correctly torqued to 22ft.lbs

Default Okay, but

the rough idle went away when I unplugged the MAF. Wouldn't the problem remain the same if it were the spark plugs?

Default Log 014, 015, and 016 in VAG-com while you start the car and watch it while it idles. Props to ...

Piggiesmalls for teaching me that one.
