OK, I have STFA and came up with some posts pointing to me possibly needing a throwout bearing. If so then I should replace the clutch while in there correct?
First off though, anyone know the life expectancy of an RS4 clutch, mileage wise? I picked my car up @ ~45k, previous owner had installed RS4 clutch in it a few k earlier, I am now at 100+K. Is it time fro another?
Also, I have the following symptoms:
While in gear under deceleration, I get a higher pitched oscillating noise, much like a fluttering or tweety bird type sound which is RPM dependant. At a very low speed, I get a "clank-clunk" type of noise. BOTH go away as soon as I press in the clutch. They also remain "gone" if I take it out of gear and release the clutch. Does this sound like a clutch? Or a Throw Out Bearing?
I have had it to the dealer and they could not diagnose the sound, a few of my friends are mechanics and they are leaning (based on my symptoms and a ride along) towards it being a bad throwout bearing. one has mentioned it could be my transmission. Cost wise I hope it is more clutch/TOB than tranny but any insight would be helpful.
