Default RS4 front bumper intercooler vents.... I was curious about how functional they really are....

I was looking at a car that had the bumper, and to me, it looked like the vents were "right next to" the side of the RS4 intercooler rather than "behind" the intercooler where it seems (to me) that they would "work best." Any opinions on this? I doubt anyone has done logs with S4 bumper vs RS4 bumper but I was just curious. I tried searching the achieves for a picture but no luck. If anyone has a picture of the intercooler looking in from those little vents, that would be awesome. Anyway, figured may be something to discuss. Thanks!

Mark P's RS4 bumper install picture of vent I am talking about....

The vents are behind the intercoolers.

I can't imagine those little vents being anything more than aesthetic.

Default I dunno, they might help to some degree.

They'd create a low pressure area to help "pull" the air through the IC. I'd be curious to see some logs. I'm sure it wouldn't be a huge increase in cooling, but it probably helps a little.

Default iirc they were supposed to provide more cooling than the stock bumper but....

how they determined that or how much difference i dont know. I would have to tend to agree with you that they really dont do much more than look good. The vents in the wheel liners right behind the ICs i know for sure help cooling and is something that the 1.8t dont have behind their smic but i know its a common mod to make holes in the liner to mimic the s4 liners

Default I'd be willing to put money down that you will see no difference in IAT's...

and if there is any difference, it would be a result of some other variable (heat soak, temperature change, road slope, etc...)

now that i think about it they were supposedly more to cool the brakes than the IC's

Default Someone posted about this....from the RS4 tech manual....they create a vac......

and help to pull air through the intercoolers. At what speeds, I have no idea.

Default How would they cool the brakes?

They aren't there to direct air to the brakes. They are suppose to be act as a low pressure area and draw air out of the bumper and away from the IC's (similar to the wheel well and the slats in the liner).
