Ruptured intake hose

My intake hose ruptured yesterday.
Thinking back and considering the behavior of the car I think it initally let go earlier in week. It was raining so I was driving hard playing with quattro and my new tires--the car felt down on power. I figured it was EDL bleeding off power since I was hammering on it pretty hard (tail out baby!). But, yesterday was the "what the hell is going on here" day. All week the car was surging under heavy load and feeling generally "unfrisky" compared to normal. "Bad gas" I postulated and was preparing to hook up my scanner and check for codes (no CE light though) this weekend. Yesterday, the car was a total dog and I could hear air rushing under the hood... boo hiss.
There is 1" rupture in the hose right at the clamp on the throttle body.
Stopped at the dealer. Part is on intergalactic backorder. Luckily, APR had one so I bought one from them ($8.00) and will install it myself.
Pics available soon, stand-by.

That is too funny.
FWIW, I talked to Marc at AMS the other day...apparently they have come
up with some time of aftermarket solution for this. I don't have more details
about it...and I have an all day meeting today...so I can't find out today...but
I will call him early next week to see what they came up with.
Some type of flux capacitor with carbon fibre biphasic resonance reducing
compound. :-)

I was losing tons of boost a couple weeks ago, running an autoX with APR's chip. Afterwards, I looked for problems (without removing anything) but couldn't find anything. I tightened up all the fittings and the problem still existed. I put the stock chip back in, and ran on Willow Springs the next day. Didn't notice any problems.
From the sounds of it, I think it is the same hose/boot thingy that you're talkin' about. I'll be inspecting it this weekend....
