Doritos are my favorite. Seriously its preference. For limited mods and reliability I use APR. If I had tons of money and mods I would probably use something else that was a little more flexible. There are a million and one posts about this. Good luck and start saving some money for repairs.

You talking about the flashloader? It would be really slick. I've been running Giac-X for state 1 as well for 5 years now. Seems pretty damn solid to me, besides being possible harder on K03s than some of the other tunes.

I'd use a program provided by a local tuner. GIAC, APR, and Revo are all fine, but having someone local that understands the software is just as important as the software itself.
Since they all put out similar gains at stage 1, tweakability beyond that might be important to you. I've not heard much about tweakability for APR. Revo was the first to come up with the SPS switch which allowed the user to tweak performancy boost, fueling, and timing across 10 different levels each. They now have a system where you can tweak your tune with a laptop and their software. Probably the peak of off the shelf, non-customer tuning since their software has built in safeguards so you don't destroy your motor.
GIAC might have something similar. Not sure.
In the hands of someone who knows what they're doing, this sort of tunability is awesome.
I can easily switch between boost levels (1-10, not just hi and low), I can adjust timing (1-10), and fueling (again, 1-10). Although I've only really messed with timing and boost and some minor Lemmiwinks.
But, like I said earlier, go with software provided locally (expecially if it's Revo or Giac) so you can tweak it down the road in the event you begin to seriously mod your car.

I've been chipped for almost 100k without any turbo issues. APR has been both fun to drive and reliable in my experience. Many track days and many WOT runs through the gears. No complaints here.
