S4 Coolant Leak Help Please!

Ok, I was driving home from Canada back to Ohio a few weekends ago and my S4 started to dump coolant out from one of the hoses...got towed the entire way home and am now finally going to attempt to figure out where the leak is. It pours out with the car not running, so I guess it is safe to assume it is not the water pump. I am looking for any help to try and diagnose where the leak is in the most efficient way possible. What to remove first, what to check first, etc... Thanks, Paul (330) 361-9249 text, call, pm or email

You should start by taking all the covers off the engine (upper and lower) then use a pressure tester
in the coolant reservoir to pressurize the system to look for leaks. Also there are lots of places under the intake manifold that can leak, but a big leak is could probably be the radiator or the hoses that lead to it or the after run coolant pump.

You all are making bad assumptions. I just replaced the water pump in my '02 S4. The seal on the main bearing failed. It leaked wether or not the engine was running. It did not matter.
I used UV dye to pinpoint the leak and took off a ton of covers.... and the accessory drive belt eventually.
If you aren't positive about the source of the leak, I highly encourage you to use the UV dye.
