Default S4/Dunlop SP 5000 Question....

I have seen that others have put the 235/45/17 SP5000 on the stock Avus wheels. Assuming stock suspension, has anyone had any rubbing problems? I am considering using this tire instead of dedicated summer and winter tires. Thanks in advance.

Default I have this set-up...

I like the SP 5000s. They are a good tire. But expect to notice a diff between them and dedicated summer tires. I have had the SP 5000s for almost a year (no rubbing) and I'm buying a set of summer tires. I'll use the Dunlops as winter tires. They do quite well in snow and rain. Just my $0.02

Default I have the set up and it _fits_ just fine..... BUT....

I have to warn you that I hate the turn in response of these tires. I never thought I'd give a damn (being as how I wasn't even really enthusiastic about performance before I got the S).

Just a simple shake of the steering wheel and you'll feel how wobbly the car is on these tires. I'm convinced my mercury sable on touring tires was more taut.

And you think that it won't matter in daily driving... until you have to lay on the brakes... hard or you hit bad, bumpy pavement at over 65 mph. You swear the back end is going to fly out on you. Or that you're going to completely loose the car. I've had to slow down from 70 mph to 55 on a strech of rt 80. :/

The one definate good thing about this tire is that it's got BOATLOADS of grip. Once you've managed to setup the turn even earlier and get the car settled, it simply will not let go.

If I had to do it again... I think I'd go with the P7000's even though they're noisier when they wear in (Bryce has these... i've sat in his car a lot.... they drone). At least they don't get wobbly on you.

If that wasn't an option, I'd try to get the tire in a 40 or 35 series... to help reduce sidewall flex and maybe make them less wobbly. So your odometer will be 1-2% faster.... at least you'll feel safe in your car... and that counts for a lot to me.

On the bright side... given how unsafe these tires make me feel... I have definately stopped being nearly as stupid as I used to be on the roads. But that's not because I'm smarter now (duh)...it's because I don't feel safe.

I know people don't like reading negative things... but this is the type of information you need sometimes. These tires grip amazingly.. handle snow and rain like a friggin champ... they brake excellent (distance wise)... but they simply don't feel safe at all. I wish someone had put THAT in a review.

Speaking of which... I think I want to go shove it into tire racks' feedback forum.
