I am looking into buying an S4 and I would like to know what size the speaker openings are in the front and rear.
Also, can the stock stereo be replaced easily?
Thanks,
Max

people problems due to some sort of timings with the amplifier.
should be no problem for a qualified tech to rip it all out and start over though..

easy to swap out. That is what I did and then some. The tweeters it blew were aftermarket also.

i don't know the size of the hole, but they're 6.5 inch drivers.
i don't recommend changing the speakers without changing the amp. i don't know the interaction between the headunit and amp, but there's a lot of stuff being communicated between the two.
the bose amp is designed to drive low-impedance speakers all the time. it will nuke any speaker you put there unless you match the impedance. (which is probably why NoMoreDuctTapeS4's speakers turned themselves into blobs of metal). just don't do it.
also, the bose system is tuned to the car. the location of the speakers, the physical properties of the speakers, even the material of the seats all play a role in the tuning.
basically, either keep the bose system whole, (which, IMO, sounds really good), or replace the whole thing.
good luck.

The rear speakers are 6.5s and bolt in. You can get someone to fit 6.5s up front in the doors, but it's a lot of work involved.

I'm pretty new to this forum, but I got to admit that my biggest complaint thus far for such a magnificent car are those Bose speakers, the worst investment I could have made. I've already had the rear passenger speaker replaced twice and it still rattles. I could swear that a stock set-up, a.k.a matched head unit with speakers could never cause a blown speaker especially when the bass is never set above the neutral setting. You mentioned this above with your statement of the Bose tuning done in accordance with the properties of the car.

i've heard a lot of people complain about the same issues. i don't know what would cause this, but you're right: it shouldn't happen on a stock system.
but, my warning was that hooking up non-Bose speakers to a Bose amp will end badly.
the dealership should cover the cost of the replacement (as i'm sure you're fully aware).
