Default S4 vs TT shifter

Ok, so my car is in getting a new transmission, and I'm driving a TT coupe (no, not from my dealer, I wish... I just paid up to rent something "fun" as opposed to some cheap Jetta like Josh had while his turbo's were being done) .

In any case, I'm a bit annoyed at the fact that Audi gave us such a bad transmission compared to the TT. This is just a 5 speed coupe, but the throw length and feel is WAY better than the S4. It's probably similar to a 30% (which I've never driven) on the S4 in terms of throw lenght, but it is much crisper. The S4 at 40% is great lengths but still has that sloppy feeling of something that isn't very precise.

This TT is going to cause me problems... it's FUN to drive. Not fast, but very fun! I guess I forgot how much I love a small car.

Default the TT shifters are great! i sampled the 6spd TT one

the shifter is soooo nice. that's why UUC only makes the shifter for us 2.7T people.....

Default I wish we didn't need the UUC shifter..

... nothing against UUC. It's a big improvement but the shifter is STILL one of the things that bugs me most about the S4...

Default Alternate driving my A4Q and our TTRQ, I like the shifter on the A4 better...

Even if the TT shift is shorter, it doesn't feel as smooth in engaging as the A4, then again the S4's are different, and a bit longer throw than the A4, so it is apples to oranges to bananas comparison (5spd A4 vs 6sp TT vs 6sp S4). One little pet peeve I have with the TT is that I have to engage 6 speed almost like putting in reverse gear, i.e., overcome extra spring tension, otherwise, I plug it in 4th. Pedal box feels so much better on TT though, that it is easier to heel-toe, and cluth is feather light, engages low, don't need to doctor it up like what I did to the A4 high clutch engagement

Default And is 5sp TTQ different than 6sp TTQ? :)

Now we can compare apples, oranges, bananas AND pears! I'm driving the 5sp TTQ.

But you're right shifter feel is a subjective thing, and the TTQ is a bit less smooth than it could be.

The S4 w/ UUC is short, but not smooth, and not precise.

The S4 stock is LONG (truck like long), reasonably smooth and reasonably sloppy.

The 5sp TTQ is short, not smooth but precise.

I've never driven an A4, so I can't compare that

My favorites I've ever driven are the Acura NSX and Acura Integra (and not having driven it, but in the same vein the Honda S2000), which are short, smooth and EXTREMELY precise. The NSX is actually the longest of those as far as I know (well, it was a 91 NSX I was driving). The 96 Integra GSR I've driven was really incredible.
