S8 rear brake upgrade worth it? (M)

Ok guys, after doing some searching on the subject I went back to DAP's S8 rear brake install pictures and noticed something I didn't see before.
This pic shows the oem setup (256mm rotor). Check out how the caliper/pad covers the entire rotor surface.
<img src="http://www.pramanik.net/galleries/cars/2001_Audi_S4/S8_Rear_Brakes/IMG_3235.jpg">
Now, on this S8 setup (280mm) an entire area of the rotor is left out of the caliper/pad coverage. This is expected since the caliper/pads are S4 oem's.
<img src="http://www.pramanik.net/galleries/cars/2001_Audi_S4/S8_Rear_Brakes/IMG_3245.jpg">
So, how can brake performance increase if the S4 caliper/pad is only "bitting" the same area of the S8 rotor as the oem set up? The way I see it you would have to use S8 calipers/pads to take full advantage of the new rotor. The only benefit I see is better cooling since the S8 rotor has a larger surface area for heat desipation.
Are these assumptions correct or am I missing something here? TIA.

Saw this the other day...looks nice.
How big are the S8's<ul><li><a href="http://www.ecstuning.com/stage/edpd/pagebuild_v2.cgi?make=Audi&engine=2.7T&mod el=B5%20S4&submodel=&searchqt=onsale">http ://www.ecstuning.com/stage/edpd/pagebuild_v2.cgi?make=Audi&engine=2.7T&mod el=B5%20S4&

the stock pad doesn't cover the whole rotor surface. if you look at the picture, there is a lip, both on the inner and outer parts of the stock rotor. perhaps the S8 setup just brings the pad edge right on, or near the edge of the rotor.
i'd guess that with the same pad you should get more stopping force because you're moving the pressure point out some.

I did it primarily because I needed new rotors in the rear. Was only about $120 more to upgrade to the S8 rotors and carriers (S8 rear rotors were actually cheaper than S4 rear rotors).
