Salvage car issues..

What are the considerations with repairing a totaled car bought as salvage, possibly with a salvage title? I realize resale value is zero, and warrenty is gone, and even selling it ever is a risk, liability if the new owner ever wrecks. But what other issues might me there? The car is titled in Virginia.
No decisions made, yet, but looking bad for Imola.
Please address only the salvage based problems, I'll debate the sanity of attempting the repair in a different stream!
Jim De Arras

Seriously though, if they total it, isn't that assuming at that point that repairs would be over $30,000 or $35,000? Do you think its reasonable to repair it at that point?

Assumes repairing the power steering mount (welding), and either no case damage on transmission, or repairable case damage.
Insurance company appears to prefer replacing the engine, and transmission (if needed), rather than risk welding repairs. The damage ain't that bad, but assessor cannot "assume" any risk for the insurance co, for weld failures on welds they ordered.
As I said, no decisions made, yet, by either me, or the insurance co, but the last phrase the body shop manager hear the guy say was "We're not going to fix it", and he did not look further, just left.
Body Shop guy advises I buy it, and fix it myself, if it were his, he would. Assistant body shop manager is drooling over the possibility of buying it at salvage (probably $10k).
It just ain't hurt that bad! Engine runs, nice, tranny works, shifts, pulls. Body sustained minimal damage, frame displacement of the one arm is small enought to be ignored, but easy enough to straighten out.
Lots to consider....
Jim De Arras

there are just somethings that are not worth it. all of the losses that you will take when you try to sell it. or if something happens to it again. let alone that it might not ever be just right again, will only haunt you. another point is that if next year AUDI releases the super secret S5 and it is 500hp and you just have to have it, the trade in value on your imola will just suck.
matthew(most moderated)k

If in the event you were to sell imola as salvage, $22,000 is what it would cost to have her running well again? Hmmmmmmmm.... I wouldn't mind having a spare S4 as a dedicated track car, if I could only come up with 22 G's
