Self adjusting clutch or not?

My clutch needs to be replaced.
The clutch itself most likely didn't fail. I am thinking it was probably the SAC mechanism.
Could not get the car into gear. Once I got it to go into gear I could not get it into reverse. Bled then replaced the clutch slave cylinder.
Then the clutch pedal would not go all the way to the floor with the new slave installed. Still could not get into reverse. Pushed too hard on the clutch pedal and I blew the seal on the slave. Brake fluid all over the inside of the bell housing!
I am trying to decide weather to go with a non SAC pressure plate like in the Clutchmasters kit to avoid this kind of failure in the future or go with the RS4 pressure plate with the SAC like is being offered with the VAST kits which look pretty nice too.
How problematic is the SAC system in general and what is the benefit of such a system? Is it better from a reliability standpoint to just avoid the SAC all together?
