Default Serpentine belt help. Opinons please...

Hi all,

While cleaning up underneath the hood I saw that my serpentine belt was cracked and frayed.

I have a appointment with the dealer to get this fixed on Saturday. Should I drive the car until then? Does anyone know what will happen if this belt snaps?

Thanks for your help,

Darren.

If the belt snaps, you will bend your valves... To be safe, don't drive.

Default That is timing belt, not Serpentine belt. (More)

Serpentine belt runs the altenator, ac compressor, water pump? and other accessories. Worst that happens is you get stuck on the side of the road. Can you see what the belt is rubbing to cause the problem?

Unfortunately no, I really can't see too much down there since the radiator blocks much of the view.

Oh well, I guess I better not drive it until Saturday.

Thanks for the help.

Default When I was at the Quattro-Challenge, that happened to my friends S4. (more)

Basically, that's the alternator belt. We lost the altinator, the battery started to drain, and the power steering was gone.

Normally, the battery is at 14volts, and when we noticed the belt was gone, we were down to 12 volts, and the battery light was on.

Don't drive it....just have it towed to the local dealer and get it fixed under warranty.

Audi Roadside covers the car for 5 years - regardless of mileage.

Default Like "The S" said... it runs various essential items in the car. Most likely a broken one will just

curb you on the side of the road for a while.

But if you have another car to drive, why push it. If it breaks, there's always a chance it will whip around and do SOMETHING to make you wish you had waited till saturday.

Better safe than sorry!

Default Call Audi Roadside, and have them drop it off at the dealer for you.

IT's free, and you don't even have to drive it.

better safe than sorry.
