Service Reminder information error on Trip Screen?

Service Reminder information error on Trip Screen?
I had my screen showing "600 miles for service" while I was at ~18900 miles, although last service by dealer was very close to 10K miles!
So I was checking the oil and it was below MIN, it needed a one quart of oil!
The screen now shows "1000 miles for service", which is right!
I had no Oil warning come up, so I'm wondering if it was INDIRECTLY telling me to take the car to service sooner than sugested if it knew my oil was low?!? And why didn't indicate it in a clear way??
Anyone else had this mileage error?
