Does anybody recommend a basic tool kit to buy for the S4? I know they it uses hex bolts - does anybody have a brand they would recommend?

bits, metric semi-deep socket set, metric deep socket set, ect etc. Basically if you aren't a avid mechanic craftsman tools are perfectly fine. I assume you do have some basic tools correct?

I think S4mig's list is pretty complete.
One comment on sockets..
Unless they've changed the design recently, I don't recommend the craftsman torx and hex sockets. The drive bit can be pulled out of the socket base (the chrome part), usually at the worst possible time. I've been real happy with torx and hex sockets from Lisle tool. The bit is broached into the socket base so they won't fall apart. They are available at most car parts stores.
Have fun,
Dave

on a car with Torx screws. I guess all I really need is a set of those, unless there other tools unique to european cars that I should have.

Go get yourself a good Sears Craftsman tool set. With a large assortment of sockets, wratchets, wrenches etc. Also, get a good torque wrench.
Sears stuff is of reasonable quality, it's reasonably priced, and if it breaks you just take it back for a replacement no questions asked because it's warranteed for life.
It's what I use, no problem.
