Default ****, car had to be pushed into a parking space :-( Clutch? Trans? Synchros? Help! (edited)

Car doesn't go into gear when the engine is running. Once I turned it off, I can put it into gear.

Had just pulled onto the site and had some trouble shifting into second, even with double clutching and rev matching, it kind of ground in a little (like the clutch wasn't all the way in).

Came to a stop, took it out of second, tried to put it in first, and it wouldn't go (into first or second). Did not try to force it. Can't recall if I tried third, will try that at lunch.

After getting pushed into the parking spot, I turned it off, and could get it into first and second. Did not try all gears.

Started it up again, again it would not go into gear.

Then turned it off, put clutch in, put it in second, then started it with clutch in. Car started and sat in position without trying to inch forward. This makes me think the clutch is OK.

Synchros? I am still under warranty for a few more days.

Sounds like a clutch problem.

Default Same happened to me on Fri. Clutch master slave cylinder is the verdict.

Sounds like synchros.
Remove weather stripping and plastic where battery is housed. Look at brake fluid res. Is it low? If so, see if it's below the rubber nipple. If so, it's gone dry.
If it's not the slave cyl., then the clutch may not have been bled correctly(did you get any recent clutch work done?).

Let me know how it turns out. My mechanic is struggling with this repair right now. Piggie is helping over the phone.

Brake fluid reservoir full. No clutch work done recently (over a year).

Default If clutch is bad, why can I put it in gear when engine is off? RS4 clutch. Could it be the SAC ..

(saw this in a Nick Gustas post, can't remember what the acronym is , self-adjusting ?)

I'm hoping it is a synchro problem, cause then that is covered by assured ($50).

If it is a clutch - all on my nickel.

Default that is the sign .. with the engine runing the clutch will not disengage ..so no gear engagement

and when everything is @ stand still it will engage ..
imho it could be :
-slave cyl (but why can you put it in gear , start the car and it will not move.. it means that the slave still works ..and the pp did not really engage the clutch disc/tranny.. i'm confuzed there)
- clutch (pp)
- syncro..unlikely since that would be a problem when engaging gears @ high rpm , and not all syncros will go at once all of a sudden..
BUT "they" can call it a syncro problem and redo the entire thing
or make it a problem then ..if you know what i mean..
go and engage w/o clutch a few times ;p
