Default just so I understand this...

You attach the aluminum to the inside aspect of the bumper. Then you simply bend/form the bumper/aluminum to desired shape and the aluminum hopefully retains that new shape?

yes, inside the bumper, but I bent the aluminum first - it's very difficult once in place to bend

Default I pressed along my bumper where the bulge was and could see that minimal force was needed

I have 4 strips, each about 12-18" long across the open rear edge of the bumper. I would have done one continuous strip if the opening of the bumper wasn't curved. Just be sure that the end of the strip goes past where you want to straighten out as the plastic may now bend where the strip ends
