Shifter Linkage.. what next?

I purchased an 01.5 Audi S4 that had a little problem with the shifter. 1st was difficult to engage and disengage, 2nd was impossible, but everything else was fine. The previous owner said he had installed an aftermarket linkage (an RS4 linkage if I understood him correctly) which caused this problem.
So I've pretty much found that there definitely was a non-stock linkage part (specifically, the transverse linkage that secures the shifter linkage to the other side of the transmission) which obviously had signs that it was rubbing against various parts under the car (hence, causing my problem with 1st and 2nd).
I took that part out and replaced it with what I thought to be the stock part (it comes included with part 8D0711151G) and now I can only get into 1st (easily, now), 4th and 6th. So, what gives? Does anybody have previous experience with this ordeal?

Here is a screen shot of the diagram, for reference. I'm talking about the part that bolt #34 goes into.

maybe you got parts from an 00-01 car? i dont know what audi changed in the shifters/linkages, but the shifters are most definately different and not interchangable.

Yeah, with the 4 different parts available on the old parts catalog added to the new superseded parts, there are about 7 different versions running around, none with application descriptions. I have no idea which one to use.
