That thing was pretty darn tight...I can't imagine that they "loosen" over time. Somehow it popped up....I wonder if you crank on the shifter enough (up and down) you can pop that clip loose...I think the valet must have been...anyway, if anyone has a similar prob - check the circlip....popped back to the right spot - fixed - total repair time 4 minutes.

https://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/1041444.phtml</a

why to do stuff to your car yourself. Even if you're not the most mechanically inclined person - try some of this stuff yourself...if you're keeping the car a long time and you learn how to do some of the stuff - you can fix it when it breaks. I was trying to decide whether or not to have my short-shifter installed (and pay for it) or put it in myself. I decided to do it myself...not really to save the $50 but so I would know how to adjust it if something went wrong...anyway, I would have needed to take the car somewhere to be looked at had I not done it myself the first time.
To all amateurs out there (I am one of them) - learn how to check and fix things like your TBB, BPVs, short shifter, boost gauges, etc...you will save yourself lots of time and headaches. It might take longer to begin with, but overall, will save time and money in the end.
OK - off my soapbox - that is all.
