because it's too short, not aligned correctly, and not lubed?
I tried aligning and lubing and no help. My shifter is sloppy as hell IMO.

Once the circlip, washer and rubber ring are removed, and you lift the ball and cage assembly, it will be obvious. The cage assembly is constructed like a wheel...a seat on the top and bottom where the rubber rings sit and a perforated barrel. The zip tie goes around the perforated barrel and compresses it around the pivot ball.

The sum of the DTS, snub and properly installed short shifter are excellent.
I drove the B&M and didn't care for it. The side to side slop is a result of poor machining of the lever and/or poor attention to tolerances. You could try removing the shift assembly, tightening the pivot bolt and lubing it really well. That would reduce some of the side to side...but not address the smoothness.
The Delrin inserts that TG uses are what make it so smooth.
Then do the zip tie mod which should address some of the fore and aft slop.
Notchiness is either a short shift that is too short...and/or mis-alignment. You should know, the shorter the shifter the more precise the alignment must be.
You cold probably get your B&M to better than it is...but it won't be a TG.
TG FTW....
