Should there be any play in the steering rod exiting the rack?

Ever since the event at ButtonWillow two weeks ago (and an off into the mud,) there has been a clunking noise around the front drivers side area over small breaks in the road. Upon inspection today, I notice an amount of play when twisting the road wheel side to side without actually turning the rack. The play isn't the rod end either. Is this normal, or a likely source of my noise? Haven't tried the same test on the passenger side yet. TIA.

when I yank on the wheel/hub like the steering arm does. Wondering if it's normal for the steering rack to have any slop. My car is actually in for service tomorrow (last warrantied one probably.) I'm just concerned that they might balk at any sort of repair to the suspension or steering due to my having Stasis TS's. Suspension arms wouldn't be too bad, but a steering rack would no doubt be an expensive venture.
Thanks for you help.
