Saturday I put a deposit down on a 2001 Santorin with silver leather interior. Unfortunately, the dealer is out of state.

I am considering passing on the car because I'm concerned about the durability of leather that light in color. I've got a dog and I hope to keep the car for 6+ years. Should this be a deal breaker?

It does show dirty easily. I don't let my golden retriever in the car with out covering the seat! Plus, his nails would do nasty things to the leather... as would black leather.

If you're conscious of the interior you shouldn't have a problem. Mine looked nearly new after 2 years of service.

Leather is leather though. Both colors clean up easily and wear well.

Especially if you have a dog. But I wouldn't let it break the deal for you. I haven't had anything (yet) get on the seats that I couldn't get off with the Audi leather cleaner.
The silver (IMO) brightens the interior and makes the interior seem more spacious, and brings out the detail of the Maple accents.

I regularly condition/clean my seats, but you can see they look like new after 20k miles of use. Oh, in addition to two kids -- arguably messier than dogs -- I also have two dogs ... but the Avant comes with a place to put them without affecting the leather. : )

Thanks for the advice guys but I decided to pass on the car. The durability issue was unsurmountable - although the seats look awesome with the Santorin and I know how tough used S4's in Santorin are to find.. and this one had only 8k miles and it was assured...

As the car is out of state I just couldn't justify a road trip suspecting that I wouldn't end up buying the car.

If I would have seen it in person I probably would have bought it though...

Back to the drawing board...
