Default Small coolant puddle on top of the block....

looks like I've got a small coolant leak somewhere near the front of the engine, on the top left side of the block. The puddle is small, there is a faint coolant smell and the coolant tank is loosing fluid very slowly.

Any ideas where it might be coming from and if it might affect performance?

Your looking at an after run electric coolant pump or coolant pipe o-rings leaking. Either way, the intake will have to come off

Default are we cursed with similiar problems for life?

I had a coolant leak, just like yours. It was the auxiliary pump underneath the intake manifold. PITA to get too, but fixed the problem. Also, check some of the hoses around that area if you get the manifold off.
