I have exactly the same problem! I bought it a couple of months ago (with LCD display), and every once in a while, the over temp alarm goes off. Sometimes I even get a bogus over pressure alarm, along with the over temp. Maybe it's the Slope setting?
I'm thinking of contacting the manufacturer. Or maybe Tirerack, where I bought the thing.
