Default Smooth Shifting

This may sound odd, since it doesnt sound rational, but sometimes when my car is very cold, the shifter goes from gear to gear very smoothly. I am not sure that i want a short shifter, but i wouldnt mind if it felt like this all the time. Someone mentioned that tranny fluid might have an effect on this? Can anyone comment on similar occurances?

Tranny fluid becomes THICKER when it is cold, right?

Default The fluid fix works if it shifts good hot. Opposite to your situation

I don't think the typical fluid fix would help you.
Some people (me included) have had a problem with 2nd and/or 3rd. When it is cold it feels "notchy" going into gear on faster shift. It is very similar to the feeling you get while trying to downshift from 2nd to 1st while the car is still moving. It doesn't grind, it just delays a moment before going into gear. The Audi trans guy explained that on some s4s the stock oil doesn't offer enough friction on the syncro cone to allow it to quickly bring the gears up to the same speed. The Audi updated gear oil (Linseed based I heard) is a bit thinner and offers sufficaint friction for the syncro to work. It worked for me. BTW 2nd Gen RX-7 had the same problem/same fix

Default Does it vary at all w/parking on an incline?

I find that when I park on level ground the car shifts much more smoothly when cold than when I park on a hill.
