so had bad is this 10% ethanol mix in gas for our cars?

AFAIK we're getting 90 octane gas with 10% Ethanol added to bring the total octane to 93.
The problem is, Stoich for Ethanol is much richer than Gasoline (I hear 8:1) so your overall mixture must be substantially richer than 100% Gasoline. Also, Gasoline has 124% the energy of Ethanol.
On paper, It looks "OK" but in practice it's a giant ball of suck at higher cylinder pressures. As the chart above illustrates, these are two vastly different fuels, with Ethanol having a very narrow effective AFR range.
This problem has affected multiple vehicles, even NA ones. One interesting item of note: LS1's running hypertech programming are now experiencing audible pinging and now must run in stock-mode. Hypertech squarely blames the fuel and has no solution as of now

Basically.. it's a huge scam IMO. The government subsidizes it, and the only benefit is to the corn growers association, who interestingly enough lobbies behind all the ethanol blends of anything.

My car is running crazy cylinder-pressures so I've had to add 10% fuel. I figured a more conventional stg3 would need half that since it doesn't seem to be a linear relationship.
Anyhow, good info.
