Default the bottom piece allows for a small step overhang similar to newer audi that have it >

from the factory....this small step allows for better transition as the climate control and faceplate are made of different materials one is shinny and "hard" one is matte and "soft"...you can match hazard and faceplate but they never match the climate controls the solution as performed by audi is to add a step and chrome step to visually break it up.

The step and strip are not needed but imo improve the looks and it OEM for newer audis so it works.

i'd love to use/mod the actual audi piece but couldn't find anyone who had cut it off so i just used some chrome "C" molding and trimmed it to more of an "L"...i can get pics and such together if you want let me know

Default I think if you trimmed a little off the sides of the wood trim peice above the radio, it would not

be as noticable. Just a thought
