Default It shouldn't really matter...(more)

The 4th gear convention comes from the fact that many cars have a 1:1 4th gear, which is run "straight through" the transmission. On cars setup like this, 4th gear will have less parasitic drag losses than the other gears.

The S4 is not setup this way so it isn't much of an issue.

Default They factored in the parasitic drag

I'll do 4th gear next tomorrow.

Default You gonna do one in both 3rd and 4th?

That way, we can see the difference from your last dyno results you did in 3rd gear and we can get a comparison between 3rd gear vs. 4th gear dyno pulls. I always wanted to see what the difference would be, but I won't be hitting the dyno til next month probably.

Hey, did you get my email about the RS4 cams?

Default On a roller dyno, less power would be lost to tire load flexing in 3rd gear. --->

Fewer wheel revolutions.

Sometimes, 135mph on the dyno isn't very practical or safe.

Default ok, I'm not really suggesting it, I'm asking. What is best/standard/etc since we have dyno day next

weekend.

Now of course we're on a dynapack, so I suppose some of those safety issues don't apply. ie, we're not fighting against tie-down chains/straps and we're not worried about tires coming off of the rollers, etc, etc.

But from a performance standpoint, does 4th gear yield the best results due to the lowest gearing ratio change?

If we dyno in one gear versus the other, are we going to hear complaints afterwards that something wasn't done "right"?
