Default Here goes (this is a little bit of Bailey sales effort coupled to my opinion)...

Here's what Bailey says:
"Dump valves are designed to release unused boost pressure when lifting off the throttle which, due to a decrese in back pressure, helps to keep the turbo spinning between gear changes for faster acceleration. This is accompanied by a loud audible "whoosh" of air giving that distinctive turbo'ed sound. Older designs of dump valves and all standard re-circulating types (non-audible) use a rubber diaphragm, which will eventually split or break (even Kevlar ones). Not content with this and after many hours of testing Bailey Motorsport has invented a revolutionary new Piston dump valve (DV24) which is maintenance free, putting an end to split diaphragms. A further development is the EVO dump valve (DV26) which has been specially designed to work on cars with airflow meters/metering heads, such as the Escort RS Turbo, Fiat Uno/Punto, Subaru Impreza etc.... Our piston dump valves have been tested to 60Psi with perfect results, whilst other diaphragm types can split or leak valuable boost."

The ones that AWE is importing are the DV-30 valves, which Bailey has to say:
"We now also produce a piston re-circulating dump valve (DV30) for the Sierra / Escort Cosworth models to directiy replace the standard Bosch plastic unit. Upgrading to a Bailey DV30 unit gives you all the advantages of a piston valve, with no audible 'whoosh'."

In my opinion, anything that is plastic (OEM Bosch re-circ. valves) are prone to damage, and anything that is metal (Bailey DV30) is less prone to damage. Also, the Bailey's use a piston, not a diaphram.

http://www.baileymotorsport.co.uk/</a

No audible "whoosh"... Any ideas of a model which WOULD have the "whoosh" sound for the S4?

Default Dunno, but after seeing the Istook-Aines engine, with the blowoff valves....

I'm wondering if we actully _can_ do it without having the car fall on its face when you lift the throttle...

Default i have 2 DV-26 blowoff valves in my glove box-they'd be on the car if they worked correctly!more!

they work great for a little while but...the area of low vacuum/low boost throws the mass air meter into fits!i am going to try and get them to work in unison with the bypass valves by only allowing a signal of vacuum over 15in using check valves!let ya know how it works out!!they sound awesome BTW!!!
