I think any oil can cause what appears like sludge if the oil isn't changed enough.
I have pulled valve covers off engines that ran Mobil 1 synthetic exclusively that had sludge.

They seem to be the same base oils (group 4/5 mix), just different additive packages.......
Not enough UOA's to really determine if the new gold is as good as the tried and true green.

Yeah, I've tried Redline also long distance...
I'd rank the oils as such:
Amsoil 5w40 Euro
Redline 5w40
Amsoil 0w30
M1 0w40
I used Redline for 2 intervals, then found dealer prices for the Amsoil.

Agreed, you have to change the oil regularly. We have a S4 here that routinely goes 12K on
Amsoil 0w30, just converted to Amsoil 5w40. Has 90K of chipped miles on all the original stuff. Seems to be running well.
