Default So what's the chance that i REALLY did short out my stock chip and ruin it?

All i did was remove the GIAC chip from my ECU (it is removeable - the guy who installed it soldered in little pins so i could plug in any chip) and put the stock one back in.

One guy said that chips are static sensitive and have a tendency of 'shorting out', which renders them useless. Could i have accidently done this? If I did, does that mean that i have ruined my stock chip?

The reason i ask is that my car won't start with the stock chip now.

Default It's possible

Dunno... if you walked around on rugs and then touched the chip it's QUITE possible that you did this. You should always ground yourself before touching sensitive electronic equipment.

It's also possible that you wrangled it out and tweeked a solder joint.

Default Are you seeing the EPC light? If not, the car cannot see the chip/ECU

and it's most likely the connection, be it the socket or solder. The way to be sure is to first reinsert the chip. If it's still no go, insert your performance chip. If it now works, then it;'s the chip itself, and not the connections.

Default You mean CE light? (when key is ON, ignition off)

or do both act the same way?

No, there is a light that should say EPC when the car is not running, but juice is flowing.

I'm pretty sure the CE light indicates the same thing...
