Default So what's the current consensus for max safe power on stock internals for our engines?...

I'm in a conversation with a G35 owner who is talking about a bunch of his friends who are pushing big hp out of that 3.5L. Who's currently got the highest power (no NOS) with stock internals for us? I was telling my friend that 400-450whp is working fine on a few S4s and that 500whp is probably the safe limit. Was I off?

our internals are forged...doesn't seem unreasonable at all.

Default FYI, this is what has sparked our conversation...

A supposed 700hp/824tq G35 that was lapping supercars at Willow Springs....

Right-click, Save-As...

Default i am going to be an optimist here and say that the potential is more

only slightly.....and i have no engineering background or proof that can support that. lets call it cheering the idea on.

but, i dont think we are going to see that limit anytime soon. i know tory is building a sick setup, but he also being very cautious (as he should) the cost of parts and relatively high cost of a used b5 chassis is going to keep people from letting loose for a little while longer me thinks.

i am all for going fast, but i dont want to be the guy who find out where the limit is by blowing up motors.

which is another good point. if one motor blows, and it dynoed at 550 whp......its not neccesarily going to be from having too much power. kind of supports my guess that finding out where the limit might be is further off than most think.

Default more pointed question would be How much HP/ for how many miles?

with an average mod agressive driving style

for 50K-100K miles I'd say somewhere between 450-500 max on stock shortblock

for a 500-700 HP motor the lifespan shortens

There's a difference between accelerated wear and a failure threshold

VQ is an awesome platform. Likely my next hotrod at some point(G35 or Skyline).
