Default solo2 STU wheel/tire query

now that the s4 has a more 'appropriate' home in STU instead of SM and having also been previously shut out of STX (aka land of subies), i thought i'd look into what wheel/tire combo could support the max 245mm tire width as wheel width is unlimited.

i'm eyeing up the <a href="http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=AR4&url=%2Fservlet%2FCallJsp%3Ftarget%3Dwh eelSearchCloseUp%26initialPartNumber%3DTC88535ISML %26sizeIndex%3D1%26wheelIndex%3D45%26autoMake%3DAu di%26autoModel%3DS4%26autoYear%3D2000%26autoModCla r%3D%26showRear%3Dnull">SSR competition (silver) 18x8.5</a>. sadly the michelin pilot sport ps2s don't appear to be availabe in 245, but the f1 gs-d3s are.

thoughts? anyone else sizing up STU for their s4? i'll prolly cross-post this in the racing forum too.

Default If you're looking for a trackable street tire in wider widths, i'd skip the F1 GS-D3

Not sure if the BFG KD has a high enough wear rating to qualify but i'd look into those. I have the F1 GS-D3s and although they make a great street tire they don't have the dry traction of the S03s.

What mod do you have that put you in SM, but now lets you in STU?

Default transmission mods (DTS, snub mount) put one in SM (iirc)

but the s4 was off limits to STX because turbo displacement was capped @ 2.0L thus making it a subie stomping ground. STU caps turbo displacement @ 3.1L thus allowing the s4.

i have both the DTS and snub mount, but they obviously don't affect anything but one's launch, so competitors won't care unless i start winning. :-P

i'm more exicted about STU because it's street tires only. i could really only place mid-pack in SM cuz i don't run r-compounds. ;-)

Default chip = SM, suspension = SM(anything other than shocks + 1 sway bar)

wheels not of stock size, anything will kick an A4/S4 into SM =(...

We can't run STS, we can't run STX(from my understanding and what I have been told), can't run IS, can't run SP, only stock and SM/SU, maybe the newer SM classes

A chip (boost change) doesn't let you in STU.

Default Ah....yeah those will do it. Get Azenis then.

The Azenis RS have a treadwear rating that meets ST rules. Guys winning in ST will be using these.

Default ah figures =) if that's the case and you want to compete, keep the car stock(shocks, sway, tires)

and run DS
