Default I've never -- ever -- seen mine go above 270°, even under hard driving in hot ambient temps!

Mine usually won't even break 250° ... 300 is not normal.

Default I'm pretty sure that isn't right. Have you checked your oil level ? What grade are you using ?

Perhaps I should first ask about the circumstances by which you atttained that temperature reading.

are you sure you're not leaking coolant?

Default NO!

I've never seen mine that high even on track days with 100deg temps!

Are you running dino oil? What are/were you doing when it was this hot? Was the coolant normal when your oil temp was this high? Maybe it's a bad gauge?

Default Seen 300 at the track with only 50deg outside temp. So during the summer

I'm sure I can get higher. I am running 10-30 Mobil 1 right now.

Default

Even on cold nights, if I do a spirited drive home on the curves, I can hit 250 easily.

Default Really? We did a club drive last summer in 100°+ ambient temps, with runs over 100 mph ...

... and nobody I know of hit oil temps like that. The group had a mix of stock and modified (chip, exhaust, etc) and we did some pretty hard runs in hot weather. We even radioed back and forth on this very subject, sharing gauge readings, and most were between 240° and 250°.

Default Humid or dry? Ask Steve, Corey, Sharon also..

Maybe our crappy gas causes the engine to get hotter and work harder. But at the track I run min 93, mixing 91 and 100. So I dunno.
