sorry to bring it up again...Acura CL-S VS S4 TIP (STOCK!) (MORE...)
sorry you'all to bring it up again..but i am about yeh close to getting the S4 of my dreams, but when i see the 0-60 #'s of the TIP (STOCK...i am not chipping it or doing any other mods!) and compare it to the Acura CL-TYPE S, the numbers are identical. BUT the S4 Tip costs me about $10K MORE! again, i am not chipping or doing anything to an S4 if and when i get it...but can owners with the Tip sway me a bit more...sorry again....just second guessing myself...any comments?

Here's some info for ya.......
My best friend got a CL Type-S in April. After breaking the car in, he took me for a ride and then let me drive. I was surprised. For a normally asprirated v6, the thing flies. Motor Trend tested it at 0-60 in 6.4 seconds and 14.8 @97 in the quarter mile. There's no doubt in my mind that the car would run faster than that at the dragstrip, at least it feels like it would. For 32K (with DVD Navigation) its an incredile bargain, not to mention how spotless the reliability record of Acura is.
Here's a few things that came standard on his car for 32K:
xenon headlights, VSA (vehicle stability assist) with traction control built in, full leather interior, power moonroof, 6 disc in dash CD changer, bose stereo system, power dual zone heated seats, memory seats and mirrors, homelink transmitter, steering wheel controls for stereo, 17" rims/low profile tires, white face gauges, 260 HP but still gets 19 city and 29 highway, 5 speed automatic trans w/sportsshift (like Tip)......I could go on and on, but I won't. Let me just say its a beautiful car with a lot to like about it for 32K......

I was in a similar position about 3 weeks ago. (more)
I just purchased my 00 S4 Tip almost 2 weeks ago and while I had my eyes set the S4 for about 2-3 months I did take a double take when the Type S came out. I saw the performance numbers and was very impressed with them and even more by the price. I decided to take the slightly more financially irresponsible position and get the S4. I also had a hard time warming up to the back end of the CL (I actually like the Accord Coupe back end more). While I think the the Type S is a fantastic car, the S4 gave me a little more appearance wise. I also like the exclusivity (sp?) of the S4. I don't have any regrets yet but may when I have to move from my apartment and live out of the car.
Hope this helps,
Scott

No, but.....
I didn't really mean to sound like an Acura commercial. I'm debating between an S4, a 330Ci, and the Type-S. They're all very different cars and I like them all. After seeing what BMW did to the new 330Ci, I'm counting it out......they really messed up the looks. So its either the S4 or the Acura. I like the S4, but its hard to ignore the value/performace of the Acura. Not to mention the reliability factor........Tough choice for me......

OK. Here is my take on this.
The Acura is not as "sporty" as the Audi. Bottom line. The Audi handles better, breaks better and has a much more potent feel to it. The Acura has too much of a streched Accord Coupe look for me. But that is just styling and is totally subjective. Plus you have that whole German vs. Japanese thing...
Audi has service paid for during warranty, does Acura (really asking here)? Plus you get four door utility out of the Audi. And does the Acura have tip controls on the steering wheel? Hmm?
That being said, the Acura is a BARGAIN for what comes with it. But I think it is worth it to pay the extra cash for the Audi. Quattro makes that big of a difference to me considering where I live.

I shift my own gears thank you very much.

some answers.....
As far as handling and braking.....
Check the numbers. Most published numbers for the Type-S meet or exceed the S4.
Feel and looks....
Totally subjective. I've driven both and they're much different. But I like each about equal.
Free service...
Are you talking about the free oil changes and stuff? Nope, Acura makes you pay for them yourself. But then again, the Acura will probably only need oil changes for the first 4 years or so. Another point- are the services really free from Audi? I don't think so- you paid for them in advance when your paid for the car. I've always argued this point with any of the so called "free" maintenance manufacturers.
Tip controls on the steering wheel....
Nope, gotta move the shifter lever to shift on the Acura.
Quattro....
Yeah, its nice to have all 4 wheels driving, but the Acura is a front driver with VSA and traction control. It should get you through the nastiest of winters with ease......
I do like the S4, but the Acura has a lot going for it too......
