Not sure about the cubic size. It had great hit, I ran it in a sedan, before my Avant and it still provided great bass.
That type R should rock, so I'd go with the sealed box. It will hit harder and crisper, rather than a vented box that is not quite as crisp but will appear lounder.
Sealed for sure from my experiences.
Couldn't see any info for the amp, but I'd want atleast 150watts RMS (not peak). The type-R might handle 300 RMS?? The type-S was ok at 100 RMS, and really kicked when I upgraded amps. Don't sell yourself short on the Amp, you can always back off the gain if you do not want to use all it's power, but you can never ask for more out of a smaller amp than it can give.

to answer your question, I had both (ported & sealed) JL Audio 10W subs... personaly I prefer the tight feel of a sealed box. Ported box need to be built by somebody with experience, it's not that simple to do. A ported enclosure will sound more boomy and louder than a sealed enclosure. Make sure you match the sub and amp. I would think that a 10" would be a better fit for an A4. I have a 10w6v2 and it's plenty, trust me.

Alpine-USA

Or at least the 350 rms @ 2ohm one. I was running a 12 inch Infinity Kappa Perfect DVC at 2 ohms with a 1 cu ft sealed box I made. It hit very, very clean to where i couldnt get it to distort unless i really gave it hell. I was very happy with the set up, and the amp. I thought it was just as good as a more expensive mtx class D i had.
