they did a good job overall (custom sub enclosure, highest quality wiring, hide wires/xover etc..) can't complain. Then for the faceplate...they offered to cover the mdf (which surrounds the head unit) with carbon fiber, which I found cool, but then they keep breaking the top part, they said it's too thin. The AVIC-D1 is fairly big, not much space between the top part and the car molding. Then they trie with black ABS, same thing, keep breaking. Maybe they didn't have the right tools, or the experience and skills to do it. Finally they decided to use vinyl to cover the MDF, it worked ok, but I don't like the look of it. It's okay for now, it's flat black, it doesn't stand out too much.

I took a look at your pic poster, what is your faceplate made of? looks similar to RS4 piano black, probably some custom painted fiberglass?
I have (still in a box) to install the RS4 piano black shifter surround I ordered a while ago... I think the faceplate similar to yours would look good with my new shifter plate.
Also to consider, the AC controls are a shiny black and the top molding is matt black (I have the sport pkg with aluminum) hard to find a good match...

used. Either way, in case you missed it, the radio piece is plastic, I think black plexy if I remember right. The radio piece, climate controller and all the trim that once was wood is painted "ebony black pearl effect", which I got off an RS6.
