Stock S4 clutches are self-adjusting, meaning that over time as the material wears down the clutch..
adjusts to get closer to the flywheel. This keeps the pedal travel for the engagement point on the clutch the same over it's life span. For one reason or another aftermarket/high hp clutches with this feature don't work well in the S4, which is why AWE warned against it. Instead manufacturers just lock the adjustment mechanism, getting rid of the defect, but also not allowing the engagement point to stay the same.
