cops should try harder to solve serious crimes, but a few of things need to be considered.
1) You don't want a traffic cop trying to solve murders.
2) If cops didn't issue tickets and pull speeders over, the highway would be a very different place (read: not safe).
3) The cops are trying to make a living as well.
4) It's not a tax if you can leagally avoid paying it. Fines are the COST of speeding.
Anyway, this isn't a personal attack, I just get a little wound up when people continually bash cops for infringing on their ability to break the law. I'll be the first to admit that the criminal justice system has a lot of problems. But so far, the police in the areas I've lived have done a commendable job of keeping scum out of my living room and the roads reasonably safe.

and it bothers me even more when a cop does it. Or when a cop tailgates.
Yes, I understand it's easier to catch speeders (ie, these technological devices specifically made for that reason, called radar/laser guns).
And I can understand an officer's need to speed - but there's no reasonable cause for changing lanes without a turnsignal, unless they're already driving in a manner that makes it unsafe to do so - and then you'd have to question that.

he was so well hidden, behind an overpass. But I wasn't speeding - it was that CT St Police time of day (7:30AM) so I was coolin' my heels.
10 or 11pm, they're never around.

however, is a State DMV issue. It is way to easy to get a license and the penalties for doing stupid stuff, like fining someone for causing an accident, really doesn't fix the problem. That person is still a bad driver, just a little poorer now. Also, driver etiqute in this country is severly lacking (don't pass on the right!). I would venture to say that most drivers are pretty bad at it. Still, that wasn't my point. I'm just saying the reaction of "don't they have something better to do" to cops ticketing speeders is usually fueled by emotion and not by good sense.
